Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for School Age Children

in From the School Age Child, Mother's Day traditions, Unique Mother's Day Gifts

Some of the best Mother’s Day gift ideas for children are the things they can make for mom.  If you have a first grader or second grader, chances are they are learning to print or write in cursive.  They have paper with lines and big pencils or crayons.

This is going to take a little help from Dad.  Buy a 5″ x 7″ or an 8″x10″ double frame, one that has hinges with a space for a picture on either side.  It will open like a book.  Dad’s duties are to take a terrific picture of the youngster.  Do not have the child pose for the picture.  Instead, take a good picture of the child doing what the child likes to do.  If the picture is taken with a digital camera, the dad can use the computer to size the picture and print it out on matte photo paper.  That takes care of one picture space.

In the other picture space will go a note from the child.  Cut a piece of paper to fit the frame.  Help the child write a short note to Mom telling her how special she is.  Put the note in the frame so that when the mom opens the picture, one side will be a loving note from her child and the other side will be a picture of the child.

Think about it.  What mother could ask for more?  The letter and the picture will be a “snapshot” of this Mother’s Day.  Being a mom, I can tell you that I have 12 of these framed pictures with notes.  It is amazing to see how the child grew each year and how the writing skills improved.  (Thank goodness!)
